The Longview Fire Department Training Division’s staff is dedicated to the delivery of training sessions that meet and/or exceed State and Federal mandates. The Division provides monthly training that includes fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, and technical rescue. General oversight is administered for Company level training as well.
The Longview Fire Department Training Field utilizes an array of props which enables hands-on opportunities for training. The field consists of a six room “live fire” burn building, three LPG props, flashover simulator, vertical ventilation prop, vertical and horizontal confined space props, full scale train derailment, various hazardous materials props, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus confidence course, and a four story drill tower.
The Training Division administers the new hire written examination and conducts the physical ability portions of the hiring process. In addition, the Division prepares and conducts promotional written examinations and assessment centers for advancement within the organization.
The Division stays abreast of current trends and technologies which have potential impact on the organization. From this, training opportunities are created and procedural changes are explored and developed.
